JOHN F. KENNEDY JR. has resigned as an assistant district attorney in
Manhattan, it was announced yesterday. BARBARA THOMPSON, director of
public information for the district attorney's office, said that no
date for his departure had been set but that "we believe it will be in
the next couple of weeks -- he will be wrapping up his cases until
then."
Mr. Kennedy, 32, was unavailable for comment, and Ms. Thompson said she
knew nothing more about his plans. Three years is considered a standard
tour of duty as an assistant district attorney. Mr. Kennedy joined the
office in August 1989.
